The holidays are quickly approaching, and it’s the time of year when a lot of people are increasing their alcohol consumption. Having a drink after work with friends, enjoying a drink with dinner while at your family’s house or unwinding at the end of the day with a cocktail at home are all things that people partake in during the holiday season (and beyond).
I’ve come across a lot of products that are intended to be used to cure your hangover symptoms so that you feel better in a shorter period of time. Some work, while others do not. I saw a friend of mine taking Myrkl recently before we were set to go out for the evening. I asked her what it was, and she told me all about this pre-drinking product that you actually use ahead of time so you don’t feel bad later on or the next morning.
Of course, I wanted to try Myrkl for myself, so I ordered a box of the capsules. It’s really affordable, at $2.30 per dose. This isn’t a supplement you’re going to be using on a daily basis, so the cost wasn’t an issue. I've had the same box for a while now.
Let’s take a look at my experience with Myrkl. Did it really cure my hangover issue, or is this all a placebo? Read on to find out more about what I experienced.
How Does Myrkl Prevent Hangovers?
The Myrkl brand explains on their website that their product is made using only natural ingredients that are safe and scientifically proven. The formula contains vitamin B12 as its main active ingredient. Vitamin B12 is supposed to boost your immune response, support brain health and increase your energy levels naturally.
The amino acid L-cystein is also included in this formula, which has been scientifically shown to reduce hangover symptoms.
Myrkl also has 10,000 CFUs of Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus coagulans in each dose. Probiotics help with hangovers in a pretty unique way, and I was intrigued to see that this was included in Myrkl. When you drink alcohol, the body produces something called acetaldehyde. This is what often makes you feel like you’re not thinking clearly while you’re intoxicated or hungover. Probiotics can help you metabolize this acetaldehyde faster, so you feel better and are thinking clearly.
How Did I Used Myrkl?
The Swedish company Myrkl recommends taking their product before you start drinking. They don’t say too much about how far in advance you can take it. I knew I was going to be going out with some of my girlfriends for a pre-Thanksgiving dinner, so I felt like it was the perfect time to try this product out so I could tell you about it.
The serving size is two capsules. I took them with my lunch earlier in the day. They were flavorless and went down with no problem. I spent the rest of the afternoon drinking plenty of water as well. Hydration is always something I think is important to focus on if you’re going to be doing any amount of drinking.
What Was My Experience?
I still had a few hours to finish up at work before I went out. The vitamin B12 in this product seemed to give me a little bit of an energy boost while I was still working. That’s something I definitely didn’t mind, since it kind of got rid of that afternoon slump that I’m prone to.
I went out with my friends, had some dinner and had some drinks. It wasn’t the heaviest drinking I’ve ever done (those days will remain during my college years!). However, I drank enough that I would normally wake up the next day with a headache and not feeling very well. I had to go to work the next morning, so I was curious to see how I was going to feel.
I didn’t feel horrible the next morning. I was actually able to get out of bed, take a shower and feel a little energized before needing to grab an ibuprofen or cup of coffee. I wouldn’t say that I felt amazing. I definitely could tell I had been drinking, but the hangover I experienced wasn’t typical.
Where Can You Get Myrkl: The Pre-Drinking Supplement?
Myrkl sells their product on their website (https://www.myrkl.com/), which is where I got it from. It currently retails for $34.50 for 30 capsules. You take two capsules per dose.
The brand often offers a discount on their product. While writing this review, I noticed that they were advertising $10 off and free shipping with any order over $50. You can also sign up for a subscription to save even more.
This is the only product sold by Myrkl, and there aren’t a lot of reviews on the company’s website. I learned about it by word of mouth, so maybe it’s going to gain more popularity that way. Prior to my friend telling me about it, I had never heard of Myrkl.
The Verdict of Myrkl for Preventing Hangovers
I wanted to be realistic about the use of this product when talking to you. It contains ingredients that definitely have the potential to help you feel better when you’re going to be drinking. However, it’s not something that contains any pain relievers or potent ingredients that can really impact those severe headaches, nausea, etc. that are associated with post-drinking.
For a brief night out or while having a few drinks at a family gathering, Myrkl can be very effective. I wouldn’t count on it being a cure-all for excessive drinking or a night of partying. Of course, you should use some self-control to prevent yourself from drinking to the extent that you feel like death the next day. That good time is never really worth paying for it the next morning.
My recommendation is to use Myrkl at your discretion if you know you’re going to be drinking. I would also have some other remedies on hand if you’re still feeling lousy. It can also help to really hydrate your body ahead of time, make sure you’re not drinking on an empty stomach and get plenty of sleep after you get home safely.
